No change in Iranian demand on gas price: Deora

New Delhi : Iran has not offered any fresh formula to break the current logjam in the proposed 5-million tonne per annum liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply deal with India, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora said here Thursday.

“The Indian government is pursuing the matter with the Iranian authorities for expediting the implementation of the deal but no fresh formula has come from the latter,” Deora told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

“National Iranian Gas Export Company (NIGEC) is yet to secure mandatory approval of its parent company for the LNG sales purchase agreement (SPA) signed with the Indian state-owned oil companies,” he said.

India signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran in 2005 for the LNG supply beginning 2009. But later dispute arose when Iran demanded a higher price and India refused to agree.
