Bangladeshi national airways to buy eight planes from Boeing

Dhaka : The Bangladeshi national airways Biman Bangladesh signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) Saturday for the purchase of eight aircraft worth $1.26 billion from Boeing.

Under the MoU, Biman will buy four Boeing-777-300 ER series and four Being 787-8 models from the American company.

Biman managing director M.A. Momen and Boeing’s director general (aircraft contracts) Glen A. Green signed the agreement at the Biman head office here.

Bangladesh caretaker government’s special aide for civil aviation and tourism Mahbub Jamil and US Charge d’Affaires to Bangladesh Geeta Pasi were present on the occasion.

After the signing ceremony, Jamil told reporters that four Boeing-777-300 ER airplanes would be added to Biman Bangladesh’s fleet in 2013.

The remaining four planes would be added in 2017, he said. With the additions, Biman’s fleet strength would increase to 20 from 12.
