Cairo : Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said the years following the ouster of the defunct Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein witnessed establishment of a federal democratic system, election of a parliament and enactment of a national constitution.
Zebari, in an interviewed with the Egyptian weekly magazine, “October,” to be published on Sunday, said the Iraqis, following the toppling of the Baath regime, experienced rule by the majority, respect for rights of the minorities and freedoms, in addition to lifting the isolation of the country and establishment of good ties with all states of the world.
Although the past years witnessed a chain of violent incidents and events, many accomplishments were seen.
Now, the national resources are in the hands of the Iraqis and they are being utilized in a transparent way, he said, adding that several laws have been encated for encouraging free trade in Iraq.
He indicated at efforts to work out two major accords with the Americans, one dealing with the furture bilateral cooperation and the other regarding status of the foreign forces.
