Lucknow : Pacer Praveen Kumar, who was the star of the tri-series win against Australia, is among three Uttar Pradesh cricketers being honoured by Chief Minister Mayawati.
The Kanshi Ram International Khel Ratna Award is to be conferred on Meerut lad Praveen Kumar, as well as under-19 cricket World Cup champions Iqbal Abdullah and Tanmay Srivastava at a special ceremony here Saturday evening.
The award carries a citation along with Rs.1 million for Praveen Kumar and Rs.500,000 for the other two cricketers.
A similar award instituted in the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder’s name would also be given to four others. They include sculptor Ram C. Sutar, women’s empowerment activist Savitri Devi, social activist Rajiv Ratna Maurya and Marathi author Rahul Avnikar.
Eight winners of the Kanshi Ram memorial essay and elocution contest would also be honoured.
