Bedi said that India was not only producing fast bowlers with regularity, but also losing them with equal frequency.

“There were bowlers like Ashish Nehra, (Laxmipathy) Balaji, (Tinu) Yohanan who did well in the past. But where are they now? Ishant has to be careful and should last a little longer,” Bedi said.

Bedi said staying fit in today’s hectic international cricket calendar will be a challenge for Ishant and only then he can represent India for a longer period.

“The young players should follow somebody. Kapil Dev is a good example and Ishant should follow his footsteps,” Bedi said at the India Today conclave Saturday.

The spin legend, however, thanked the support staff of Indian team for cutting down injuries.

“In the last 10 years, the team has benefited from the support staff. There are not many injuries around that used to be.”

Bedi also said the youngsters in the team have played excellent cricket in Australia, but they will have to be humble and learn from their seniors how to carry themselves on the field.

“We have world’s greatest batsman in Sachin Tendulkar who is also world’s most humble sportsperson. Has he ever misbehaved? Our youngsters refuse to toe his line, and that to me is decrying cricket. Cricket is still a gentleman’s game.”
