Rourkela : Over 50 people Sunday ransacked a movie theatre for screening Hindi film “Jodhaa Akbar” in Orissa’s steel city Rourkela.
Although groups like the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad earlier warned the cinema hall owners across the state not to screen the film because they alleged it distorted historical facts, the film was being screened at the Apsara Talkies here since Friday.
A group of people calling themselves activists of Bajrang Dal entered the hall during the afternoon show. They asked the audience to vacate the hall, district police chief Ravi Kant told IANS.
“They broke several chairs, tore down the movie screen and forced the operator to stop the movie,” he said. “They also set fire to some posters outside the hall,” he added.
The police rushed to the spot and detained two persons.
The movie “Jodhaa Akbar” by Ashutosh Gowariker is facing the ire of some radical groups across the country.
