“The days of dictatorship are over and we, with the support and help of the people of Pakistan, have ensured that the democracy is put on track. For this very fact, we are thankful to the masses who voted us into power,” Zardari told reporters at the parliament house.

Zardari chaired the joint parliamentary meeting of his Pakistan People’s Party, and PML-N party of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and other allies ahead of the inaugural session of the new parliament.

Zardari expressed the hope that the future government would take steps so as ‘the democracy is strengthened in the country in a minimum time limit’.

Security was tight for Mr Zardari, political leaders and new members as they arrived at the parliament building.

The Administration had made special arrangements in and around the Parliament House.

Upon Zardari’s arrival at the Parliament House, personnel of law security agencies and private security guards escorted the bullet proof vehicle of PPP Co-Chairperson to main entrance.
