Over 1.9 million ballots were processed in Tehran, allowing the emergence of 19 winners who will join the parliament as new members, said the statement Monday, adding that 22 candidates will vie for the remaining 11 seats from Tehran in elections that will be held next April.

Heading the list of the 19 winners is the present House Speaker Gholam Haddad Adel, who received 844, 230 votes.

In this stage of the elections process, none of the reformist candidates from the electoral district of Tehran could make it to the parliament, which forces them to enter into the second stage in April to grab the 11 remaining seats.

A number of cities and provinces will hold similar elections to the ones held last Friday to determine who gets the remaining seats in the parliament.

The recent elections resulted in a landslide win for the conservatives who got 182 seats out of a total of 290, in constrast to 40 seats for the reformists and 47 for independents.
