Damascus : Arab permanent representatives to the Arab League (AL) continued on Tuesday preparatory meetings to further examine a draft agenda of the upcoming Arab Summit.
Some remaining articles of the agenda that deal with various economic, social issues, as well as topics concerning the youth and women would be discussed, said a conference statement.
The draft agenda, to be submitted to the Arab Foreign Ministers’ preparatory meeting scheduled on Thursday, includes the Arab peace initiative, Israel’s rejection of the settlement plan, conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories, and issues concerning Iraq, Sudan and Somalia.
AL permanent representatives delayed discussion of the Lebanese issue during their Monday deliberations as requested by Lebanon, which demanded to discuss the political crisis in the country at the ministerial level.
Lebanese representatives were absent at the Monday meeting.
AL Secretary General Amr Moussa, who arrived here Monday evening, would attend Tuesday’s meeting to discuss “hot issues” in the region, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Arab economic experts also held follow-up meetings on Tuesday to prepare for the agenda of the Arab Economic and Social Council, which would meet on Wednesday at the level of ministers of economy, commerce and finance.
The 20th Arab summit is scheduled to be held here in Damascus on March 29-30.
