Ghaziabad : Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly by-election from the Murad Nagar constituency April 12, the Ghaziabad district authorities have directed the police to make lists of anti-social elements and keep a strict watch on them.
Inspector General of Police (Meerut range) V.K. Gupta and Meerut Divisional Commissioner Davendra Chaudhary said at a joint press conference here Tuesday that they have also instructed the police officials to seal the district’s borders on the eve of the polls so that outsiders do not enter the constituency and interfere with the poll process.
The Ghaziabad district magistrate and the senior superintendent of police have been asked to monitor on day-to-day basis the preventive measures taken to ensure peaceful and fair election.
The district magistrate has been asked to identify the sensitive and hypersensitive polling booths under 10 police stations of the district. The police station level officials have been empowered to initiate need-based action in their area.
All holders of arms licences in the district have been asked to deposit their weapons with the police stations since the model code of conduct has come into force.
The Murad Nagar assembly seat fell vacant after Independent legislator Raj Pal Tyagi resigned from the assembly after he joined the Bahujan Samaj Party in March 2008.
