Washington : At least 75 percent of Democratic electors in the US are considering the possibility of a joint Barack Obama-Hillary Clinton candidacy, or viceversa, for the presidential elections in November, according to a Gallup survey.
At least 30 percent of people consulted considered the best option for Obama to be the presidential candidate and Clinton his vice-president running mate, while 45 percent deemed it acceptable, the poll indicated.
Meanwhile, 29 percent of voters favored Clinton’s nomination as presidential candidate and Obama as vice-president.
Many electors approve the alliance between both Democratic hopefuls out of fear that, if Clinton is left out in the November ballot, they may lose the support of adult white women from the opposition party.
If Obama is omitted, the votes of many youngsters and African-Americans currently supporting the Illinois Senator may be lost, according to analysts.
