Palestinian factions bicker over Sanaa accord

By KUNA

Gaza : The Palestinian Islamic movement Hamas has rejected anew statements by some officials of the Palestinian Authority considering the recently-brokered conciliation accord between Hamas and Fatah as an accord that should be followed by implementation.

Such statements breach the Sanaa declaration that explicitly stipulates that the Yemeni initiative constitutes a framework for dialogue, Hamas said on Wednesday in a statement, particularly alluding to a statement, made by Nabil Amr, the advisor of the Palestinian president, in this respect.

Hamas charged that Amr’s statement was effectively in harmony with the stance of American and Israeli officials rejecting inter-Palestinian dialogue, and constituted a response to Israeli threats against the Palestinian authority to coerce it stop the dialogue.

Amr, speaking at a news conference held at the Palestinian authority headquarters earlier today, stated that the accord in Yemen should be implemented, rather than subjected to time-consuming, marathon dialogue.

The accord, declared on March 23, essentially aims to end a bitter standoff between the two organizations and calls for restoration of the status quo that existed before Hamas’s seizure of Gaza Strip.
