Bhopal : The Samajwadi Party’s legislator Kishore Samrite Wednesday evening alleged that his signatures on Independent candidate Vivek Tankha’s nomination papers were taken forcibly and the nomination should be cancelled.
Samrite, who was suspended from the party after he accused the Congress party of offering him a bribe to vote during the Rajya Sabha election, filed the complaint at the capital’s Jehangirabad police station.
“My signatures on Tankha’s nomination papers as a proposer were taken forcibly. I was threatened with dire consequences if I refused to propose his candidature,” Samrite told IANS.
He said that pressure was mounted on him by the Samajwadi Party national Secretary Amar Singh, party MLA Vanshmani Verma and Tankha.
The Samajwadi Party, which has eight members in the state assembly, backed Tankha who was propped up by the Congress party.
The party also issued a whip to the party legislators to vote for Tankha but Samrite refused and later charged the Congress with offering him a bribe to vote for Tankha.
Three Rajya Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh are falling vacant next month and polling for these seats is slated for Friday.
