Talking to newsmen on 26th March, Kamal Ahmad Farooqui, chairman of the commission, said a panel comprising six eminent lawyers of Delhi would be formed in Delhi in order to solve problems confronting minorities and provide them all possible legal assistance. According to Farooqui, after the inauguration of legal counseling, these lawyers will be available to minorities for one day each fortnight to give them legal support. Farooqui said these lawyers would help members of minorities in all legal problems — educational or civil or criminal.

Farooqui said two lawyers each from Muslim, Christian and Sikh communities would be included in the proposed panel. During 2005-06, advocate Ashok Aggarwal was looking after legal cases of minorities, especially of those already jailed, on behalf of a local NGO, Social Jurists that is headed by Prof. Abu Bakr.
