Former horticulture minister Singhi Ram and former state school education board chairman B.R. Rahi were arrested after the district and sessions court cancelled their anticipatory bail in the fraud case. Ram allegedly procured a fake class 12 pass certificate for his daughter from the state school education board.

“Singhi Ram and B.R. Rahi have been arrested and will be produced in court Tuesday. Police custody will be sought for further interrogation,” said Anand Pratap Singh, superintendent of police (vigilance).

Rahi was the chairman of the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board (HPSEB) when the certificate was issued in 2005.

Upma Kashyap, daughter of Ram, had failed her class 12 exam at the prestigious Lawrence School in Sanawar three years ago.

Ram allegedly procured a fake certificate from the HPSEB that helped Upma secure admission in Lady Shriram College, New Delhi.

Ram, a Dalit leader, has been a legislator from the Rampur Bushar seat a record six times and has never lost an election.
