Shiite Leader Conditions Fighters Withdrawal

Baghdad : Shiite cleric Muqtada al Sadr announced a withdrawal of his fighters from the streets if Police and occupation forces stop operating against them and release prisoners.

The Mahdi Army leader submitted his proposal in a nine-point declaration issued from his headquarter in Nayaf.

Government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh considered the announcement positive and sensible but did not specify if Al Sadr’s conditions will be accepted or not.

Meanwhile, clashes continue in Basora southern region this Sunday where the US and the country’s troops attack the rebels.

Combats started on Monday after the Iraqi-US joint forces attacked that city considered a bastion of resistance.

Estimates from the authorities considered the death tall in 260 on Friday. There are 133 deaths reported only in the capital and 647 wounded most of them from Sadder City.

Fights between Mahdi Army and Security Forces killed 125 and wounded 500 in Basora and nearby localities, reported the Interior Ministry.

Health sources reported that hospitals were packed with people in Basora and Baghdad.
