Four killed, four injured in Delhi fire

New Delhi : Four people were killed and four others injured in a fire while a godown and two factories were gutted in separate incidents in the capital Friday, police said.

In the first incident, a three-storeyed building was gutted in a fire at Khichdipur, east Delhi.

“Four members of a family, including two women, were burnt to death and four others injured in the fire,” a police official said.

Police suspect short circuit as the cause of the fire. The incident took place at around 2:15 a.m.

“Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire fighters took at least 40 minutes to douse the flames,” the official said.

The victims who died in fire were identified as Nutan, 20, Karan Singh, 40, Lajo, 35, and Lalit, 15.

The four injured sustained over 50 percent burns and were rushed to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. They were later transferred to GTB hospital where their condition is said to be critical.

“Some people from the second and third floors managed to escape from the building,” the official added.

Another fire broke out at a godown in Pan Mandi, Sadar Bazar in central Delhi.

The fire was reported at 8.20 a.m. and fire engines were rushed to the spot. No casualty was reported.

The police are investigating the cause of the fire.

In the third incident, a cardboard factory in Madipur, in west Delhi, was gutted in a fire in the morning. No casualty was reported.

Yet another fire was reported in a factory located in Kabul Nagar, northeast Delhi. The factory was gutted in the fire and there were no casualties.
