Jakarta : Lawmaker Legislator Sarjan Tahir of Indonesian President Susilo Yudhoyono’s Democrat Party, was arrested Friday night by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for allegedly receiving a kickback in a South Sumatra protected forest conversion.
Quoting a media report on Saturday, the ANTARA news agency reported that the arrest was made after the commission interrogated the suspect for two hours.
Sarjan Tahir was later jailed in the North Jakarta Police cell. KPK deputy chairman Chandra M Hamzah said his institution had been investigating Sarjan’s case since Feb. 27, the Jakarta Post said.
Indonesia has been seriously fought rampant corruption under the leadership of President Susilo.
A number of top officials have been jailed and undergone legal process for corruption.
