Iran ready to play active role in promoting peace in Horn of African: Mottaki

Tehran : Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki in a meeting with an Eritrean senior delegation said Iran is ready to play an active role in promoting peace and stability in the region of Horn of Africa.

The Eritrean senior delegation including Osman Saleh Muhammad, foreign minister, Berhane Abrehe, minister of finance and international cooperation, and Hagus Gibrehiut, economic advisor to the Eritrean president discussed issues of mutual interest with Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here Monday.

According to Foreign Ministry Media Department, the two sides discussed bilateral ties, international and regional issues.

Mottaki said the political intention of both countries is in direction of promotion and development of ties and underlined that the future visit of Eritrean president to Iran will be an important development in bilateral relations.

He added, “Iran believes that parallel to the good political relations and international cooperation with Eritrea, the economic ties should be expanded, too.”

The Eritrean foreign minister, for his part, underscored his country’s intention to develop ties with Iran and said continuation of consultations between the two countries is very useful and valuable.

Also Eritrean minister of finance and international cooperation presented a report on bilateral cooperation in the economic field and called for Iranian investors to be active in Eritrea.
