Baghdad : A pre-dawn U.S. air strike hit suspected insurgent positions in a Baghdad southern neighborhood on Monday, killing five people and wounding eight others, a well-informed police source said.
“The U.S. Army conducted an air strike at about 1:00 a.m. (2200GMT on Sunday) on the al-Amil neighborhood,” the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Five people were killed by the attack, including a family of a man, his wife and their child, the source said, adding that the attack totally destroyed an apartment and caused damages to nearby buildings.
The U.S. military has no immediate comment on the air strike on the Shiite-dominated neighborhood which is also a stronghold of Mahdi Army militia loyal to radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.
