Seoul : South Korean Foreign Ministry said Tuesday it will provide Myanmar with emergency aid materials worth100,000 U.S. dollars to help the people affected by a powerful cyclone last weekend.
“The government plans to provide aid materials such as tents, medication, and food in consideration of the Myanmar government’s request,” said Moon Tae-young, spokesman for the ministry.
The South Korean government is considering additional assistance through the United Nations aid agencies, depending on the future situation, he added.
Moon said that there have been no reports of any South Korean casualty yet.
More than 15,000 people reportedly died and 30,000 others missing after a cyclone swept across a populous region in Myanmar.
