New Delhi : Barely a month after Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi complained that there was no internal democracy in any political organisation, party veteran and central minister Arjun Singh has echoed the same concern.
In a book titled “Mohe Kahan Vishraam” (Where is the time to rest), a collection of articles on him edited by Kanhaiya Lal Nandan, Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh has expressed his concern over “fragmentation” in the decision-making process within the more-than-century-old party.
“The decision-making process in the Congress is no longer integrated. The party members have no qualms in violating the decisions taken by the high command as there is no participation by them in decision-making. Earlier they had a role in even the most important decisions taken by the party, but now it is no longer there,” Arjun Singh says in the book.
Talking to journalists in Bangalore earlier this year, Rahul Gandhi had said there was “no internal democracy in our political parties”.
“Why is that we are not able to extend democracy to our institutions? Though we have democracy in our country, we don’t see it in our political system. Why is there no democracy within any party? I am trying to figure out,” he had said.
