London : India’s Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble will miss a meeting of the high-profile World Cricket Committee of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) here next week due to commitments with the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
Along with them, the committee’s newest member, Shaun Pollock of South Africa, and former New Zealand captain Martin Crowe, will also miss the meeting Monday and Tuesday.
Dravid is captaining the Bangalore Royal Challengers, who also have Kumble in the team and Crowe as their chief cricket officer.
An MCC statement said that its chairman Tony Lewis, along with MCC secretary and chief executive Keith Bradshaw and MCC Head of Cricket John Stephenson, flew down to India and got their views on the topics to be discussed by the 18-member panel.
“Having just met with Shaun in India, together with Rahul and Martin, we have already received a tremendous amount of input. It is pleasing to have Shaun on board, who I know will have much to offer to the work of the Committee,” said Lewis.
Discussions will be wide-ranging, covering the effects that worldwide Twenty20 leagues might have on the format of international cricket, a consideration of players’ conduct and a look at technology and the proposed Umpire Decision Review System, said the statement.
Although the International Cricket Council is the global governing body, MCC continues to be the custodian of the laws of game.
