New Delhi : The blazing sun Thursday prevented cricket fans in the capital from thronging in large numbers to cheer Delhi Daredevils against Chennai Super Kings at the Ferozshah Kotla stadium.
There were no serpentine queues outside the stadium and it was an easy day for the security personnel manning the gates – except for standing under the sun for long hours.
The Kotla was only half full, unlike the last two night-time encounters.
Tempers, however, ran high and there were some altercations among private security guards and policemen, both trying to put their stamp of authority in managing affairs.
“What was the need for an afternoon match during this time of the year? The Kotla has all facilities to host a night match and they should have done the same,” said a policeman on patrol.
Organisers took all steps help spectators counter the heat and arranged for drinking water facilities in all galleries.
Doctors too were posted in the stadium to take care any victim of heat stroke and the public address system announced their telephone numbers.
Meanwhile, the Indian cheerleaders and the bhangra boys failed to generate the excitement that was created by the foreign, skimpily dressed cheergirls in the early phase of the league.
The cheergirls and boys of the Chennai Super Kings danced whenever their team’s batsmen scored a four or a six – but that was hardly noticed by spectators.
