Summer sun keeps crowd off Kotla

New Delhi : The serpentine queues were missing at the Feroze Shah Kotla stadium here Thursday. The searing summer sun seems to have kept the cricket fans indoors and the cheering was muffled for the home team Delhi Daredevills playing against Chennai Super Kings.

It was an easy day for the usually harassed security personnel manning the gates, though they had no respite from the heat.

Being the day-night game, Kotla was half filled unlike the two previous night encounters when the revellers were in full strength.

Frayed tempers led to altercations between the private security guards and the policemen, both trying to exercise their authority.

“Where was the need for the match to be played in the afternoon at this time of the year? More so, when Kotla has facilities to host a night match,” said a policeman.

Organisers have provided water tankers, packaged water and soft-drinks in the galleries. Medical facilities have also been provided with doctors in attendance at the stadium. The two giant screens flashed the emergency numbers of the doctors on duty.
