Kuwait : Kuwait’s democracy is one that embodies the spirit of solidarity that prevail since the pact was forged between the people and their rulers more than two centuries ago, said Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governor Sheikh Ali Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
Speaking to KUNA, he said democratic reform began with the citizens themselves, because it was they who elected their representatives in the legislative authority, and thus push for reform and development.
The governor rejected calls for forming political parties, saying, “We in Kuwait are a single nation, with one leader and our united people seek the interest of the state … solidarity is the best means to maintain this, and since this is a geographically small country, our leaders depend on deliberations (before taking decisions.” On results so far achieved by the parliament, Sheikh Ali said there were some that made great achievements and boosted the relation between the legislative and executive branches, while others fell short of achieving the aspirations of the people.
He stressed the importance of “boosting and maintaining democracy, standing firm behind our leaders, and deep-rooting the constitution we all agreed on.” Asked about preparations in the governorate for election day, he said that meetings had been constant since the declaration of the voting day in order to facilitate the voting process within the framework of the law and orders of the Interior Ministry. He said casting votes was a national duty, calling on citizens to choose their representatives wisely.
Sheikh Ali also called on print and broadcast media to take up their responsibility in increasing public awareness.
