Fuzhou, Southeast China : The sacred Olypmic flame will tour the city of Fuzhou, the capital of southeastern China’s Fujian province and the gateway of “the silk road via the sea”, on Sunday, China’s Xinhua news agency reported.
It is also the first leg in Fujian’s route, according to the local authority.
A total of 208 torchbearers from all walks of life will run through Fuzhou, a famous historic and cultural city on the southeastern coast of China with a history of more than 2,200 years.
The 28-kilometer relay route in Fuzhou will highlight a “cultural route”, stretching through several main cultural landmark architectures and historic site in the city, including Wuyi Square, Three Hills and Two Pagodas, Three Alleys and Seven Lanes, Luoxing Tower and Taijiang Dock.
The torch relay in Fuzhou will start at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday at Wuyi Square, which is located at the centre of the city, and an important venue to host large culture and entertainment activities for ordinary people. After the 11-hour relay, a grand ceremony will be held at Wanglongtai Park, the main scenic area facing Min River.
The Olympic torch relay in Fujian province cover 96.85 kilometres. Besides Fuzhou, scenic coastal city of Quanzhou and Xiamen, and Longyan will also hold the relay. After Fujian, the torch will head to Jiangxi province in eastern China.
