According to The New York Times, the US Department of Defense has not publicly annulled the appointment of Major General Jay Hood for the position to the US Embassy to Islamabad; however, statements made by US officials are suggesting it should be annulled.

Hood is proposed for a responsibility at the Central Command Headquarters, said James Graybeal, head of the spokespeople in the Central Command, who answered questions from reporters.

At least two workers of the Pentagon, who wanted to remain unidentified, admitted such a decision should have been better analyzed.

When Hood’s nomination was announced, Pakistani press media started a rejecting campaign against the initiative, starting from the abuse committed in the prison of Guantanamo.

The prison of Guantanamo is a symbol of the torture, injustice and profanation of the Islam, said expert Shireen Mazari, director of the Strategic Studies Institute of Pakistan.

Hood was the head of the prison from 2004 to 2006, and during his time at the head of the prison, possible terrorists were the target of physical and psychological maltreatment.

The New York Times said it is not clear if the revocation is influenced by pressure from the government of Islamabad.

The Department of Defense evaluated the appointment of Hood on March 13 after analyzing his experience and the strategic importance of Pakistan in the war against terrorism, said the New York Times.
