London : Chelsea captain John Terry insisted that he would be fit for the Champions League final despite suffering a partial dislocation of the elbow in his side’s draw against Bolton Wanderers.
The former England captain sustained the injury after 10 minutes of the Premier League match Sunday in a seemingly innocuous collision with his own goalkeeper Petr Cech.
He collapsed to the turf and was in clear distress, one arm beating the turf as the other was clutched limply to his chest.
But Terry, who has made a habit of rapid recoveries from injury, is adamant that the injury will not keep him out of the Champions League final against Manchester United in Moscow a week come Wednesday.
“The arm’s OK,” he said. “It’s just a dislocation. They popped it back in before I got to hospital.
“There’s no break so in three or four days it should be OK. Fingers crossed I’ll be alright for Moscow.”
Chelsea began the day level on points with Manchester United, but with a far inferior goal difference that meant they had to hope United would drop points away to Wigan.
But United won 2-0, and Chelsea, having gone ahead through Andriy Shevchenko, conceded an injury-time equaliser to Matt Taylor, leaving United champions by two points.
“I got back just before the start of the second half,” said Terry. “I was flicking between the two games and when the second went in I knew that was it.
“They (United) have been very good this year. We respect them. They’ve been top of the league and they deserve it, but Moscow’s a different matter.
“That’s the big trophy I want, but it’s been massively disappointing. We’ve dropped a lot of points late in games and that’s what’s cost us.”
