Sydney : Australia has strongly condemned the terror bombings in the Indian city of Jaipur in which at least 63 people were killed, saying that the “the attack on a democratic, tolerant, open society is repugnant”.
Offering its deepest sympathies to the victims of the attack Tuesday evening, their families and the people of India, a statement by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) said it was a “reprehensible act, for which there can be no justification… Australia hopes the perpetrators are brought to justice quickly”.
“Australian and Indian law enforcement agencies continue to work together in our common fight against terrorism”, the statement added.
Australians travelling to India have also been advised to exercise “a high degree of caution because of the high risk of terrorist activity by militant groups”.
The DFAT Travel Advisory, which was updated Tuesday night following the attack, also stated, “Recent credible information indicates that Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata may be the targets of terrorist attacks and, more specifically, that terrorists are planning to conduct suicide attacks in Mumbai or New Delhi”.
The advisory advises Australians not to travel to Jammu and Kashmir and reconsider travel to the north-eastern states of Assam, Nagaland, Tripura and Manipur.
