Pacific Countries claim Territories Sovereignty

Canberra : Several countries from the Pacific will request the United Nations the sovereignty of more than 579,150 square miles of the Pacific Ocean to explode the oil and gas fields in the zone.

In statements to the press, Cristelle Pratt, Director of the Commission of the Pacific Islands Applied to Geo-Science (SOPAC) said the Fiji, Cook, Salomon, Palau Islands, Federal States of Micronesia, Kiritbati, Tonga and Papua New Guinea have the intention to extend their own exclusive territorial dominions.

SOPAC is organizing a meeting to prepare the requests of these nations that for the first time, they join their efforts to extend their economic territories.

The economies of those eight countries are based on tourism, agriculture, fishing and mining, for what to assure the sovereignty on a bigger marine area can provide them of more economic benefits.

The referred countries will wait until May of next year to obtain an answer on their plans.

Australia could increase its rights on more than 935,000 million square miles, by virtue of the UN Convention of the Sea Law.
