Participants carried banners calling for continuing struggle until the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital and affirming commitment to the right of return and refusal of settling. They also condemned Israel’s massacres against Palestinians and the international silence regarding them.

Participants delivered a memo to representatives of the United Nations, the European Union, the Red Cross and the Arab League in Damascus, calling on them to assume their responsibilities and end the tragedy of the Palestinian people in compliance with international law and UN decrees that affirm the Palestinian people’s right of self-determination and the Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland.

The memos pointed out that Israel has been refusing to apply UN resolutions for 60 years and acts as if it’s above international law, and that it continues its daily aggression and criminal practices against the Palestinian people.

In a statement, participants in the sit-in said that Israel failed to break the will of the Palestinian people despite constant Israeli aggression against them, calling for immediate action to lift the unjust siege imposed in the Palestinian people and stressing the need for Palestinian national unity.

Meanwhile, the Regional Leadership of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party underlined the Palestinian people’s historic right to reclaim their land and establish a Palestinian state and their right to return to their homeland and refuse settlement.

In a statement, the party called on the world’s nations to support Palestine and the establishing of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, calling all free people in the world to support the Palestinian’s struggle against Israeli aggression and uncover Israel’s racist nature.

The statement goes on to affirm that the Arab-Israeli conflict is the main issue, and that the Arab people’s will for liberation and struggle affirms the continuation of the resistance until Palestine, the Golan and Shiba farms are restored and until the occupation forces leave Iraq.

It added that the current reality calls for adhering to the Arab national project which requires bolstering Arab solidarity and supporting Arab common work, and this embodies the Party’s course and the directives and standards of Syria under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad.

The statement concluded by refusing occupation and aggression and refusing to surrender to the will of foreign forces, and that Syria has faith in the people’s will which will be victorious and defeat pressures and challenges.

In related issue, Syrian journalists affirmed on Wednesday their support of the Palestinian people and their struggle to gain their freedom and independence and achieve their goals of returning to their homeland and establishing an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Syrian Journalists Union issued a statement during a sit-in held in front of its Damascus headquarters on occasion of the 60th anniversary of the occupation of Palestine.

The statement affirmed Syrian journalists’ commitment to Syria’s course of resistance in defense of Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian cause. It stressed that Palestinian national unity is the basis for protecting the Palestinian people’s national struggle and resistance of Israeli occupation.

The Union called on world journalists and the international community to assume their responsibility in stopping the continuing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and lift the siege imposed on them.

Participants in the sit-in included Assistant Minister of Information Taleb Qadi Amin, Chairman of the Journalists Union Elias Murad, Deputy Chairman of the Arab Journalists Union Saber Falhout, and a number of officials and Syrian, Arab and foreign journalists.
