FM thanks Malaysia for role in restoring Pakistan’s Commonwealth membership

Kuala Lumpur : Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, has expressed his country’s appreciation to Malaysia for its role in restoring Pakistan’s membership to the Councils of the Commonwealth.

According to the press statement issued by the High Commission of Pakistan here Thursday, Qureshi sent a letter to his Malaysian counterpart, Dr Rais Yatim, who chairs the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG), to thank Rais for his contribution.

“Through you, I also wish to convey our deep appreciation and thanks to the other members of the CMAG,” he said.

Qureshi also said that relations between Pakistan and Malaysia were marked by fraternity, cordially, understanding and support to each other on various issues of common interests.

Qureshi said that the Government of Pakistan would resume its full participation in Commonwealth activities and work towards attainment of common goals.

Pakistan’s Commonwealth membership was suspended in November last year pending the restoration of democracy and rule of law in that country after marital law was declared.
