Buenos Aires : Over 250 kg (551 lbs) of heroin has been seized at a confectionery factory on the outskirts of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, police said on Friday.
The drugs, packed in 1-kg (2.2-lbs) bags, were hidden in barrels of jam, ready for shipment to Spain via Portugal.
Seven people were detained on charges of being involved in the drug supply route.
The drug haul comes two weeks after another major seizure, when three drug dealers preparing a 470-kg (1036-lbs) drug load for shipment to Spain, were arrested in Buenos Aires.
Argentine is a transfer point on a major cocaine trafficking route from Bolivia and Peru to Europe. Drug trafficking in Argentina has almost doubled in three years.
