United Nations : Doudou Di ine, a United Nations ombudsman on Racism, Discrimination and Xenophobia, will travel to the US on Monday to know about the persistence of the US government on human rights violations, sources said here Friday.
The visit of the Senegalese UN expert will be for more than two weeks to fulfil a working agenda including interviews and visits in Washington, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and other cities, including San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The list of the Senegalese expert includes the names of local authorities, representatives of non-governmental organizations and community leaders.
Di ine will also have meetings with academicians and activists in the struggle against racism and discrimination.
The compiled information will be used by the UN ombudsman for the elaboration of a report with his conclusions on the topic which will be presented before the UN Human Rights Council in its 2009 session in Geneva.
