Beijing : At least 200 relief workers have been killed in landslides caused by aftershocks in the past three days in China’s quake-hit southwestern province of Sichuan, the country’s transport ministry said Monday.
The workers were engaged in road repairing works in the province. Officials said two construction machines and six vehicles were also buried in landslides.
Meanwhile, China’s Earthquake Networks Centre said another aftershock, measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 2.06 p.m. Monday in Qingchuan county of Sichuan Province.
The tremor is the latest in a series of aftershocks that jolted the province after the deadly quake May 12.
The epicentre of the tremor was located at 32.5 degrees north latitude and 105.3 degrees east longitude, the centre said.
