Ranchi : At least 20 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers were injured in a police baton charge in Jharkhand Monday as the activists tried to cross barricades and reach the chief minister’s residence to protest spiralling prices of essential commodities.
Nearly 5,000 BJP workers clashed with the police near the Governor House here as they tried to march towards the chief minister’s residence. The BJP workers were led by Jamshedpur legislator Raghubar Das.
“The police lathi (baton) charge was uncalled for. We were peacefully taking out the protest march. The Madhu Koda government wants to suppress voice of the people of the state against rising prices,” said Das.
On May 12, the BJP had launched 12-day agitation to protest rise in prices of essential commodities and prevailing corruption in the state.
Everyday thousands of BJP workers from different districts take out procession march from Morabadi ground in Ranchi to demonstrate in front of the chief minister’s house.
