Colombo : At least 12 Tamil Rebels and three government soldiers died during new clashes in Sri Lanka convulsive northern territory, military sources reported in this capital.
A communiqué from the Defense Ministry reported that the army counterattacked Palampiddi area at about 250 meters northern Colombo in reply to separatists attack to a military defensive line.
The dispatch noted that last Sunday’s attach killed at least 15 soldiers and over 50 rebels from the Tamil Eelam Liberation Tigers (TELT) during the troops’ advance to obtain Palampiddi area.
However, Tamilnet website from TELT reported that 26 soldiers died during those fighting and other six corpses have been found.
The TELT have been fighting since July 1983 to obtain independence of northern and eastern Sri Lanka where Tamil ethnic group represents the majority.
