Israel had affirmed its readiness to implement Egypt’s ideas if Palestinian factions signed on to them.

The calming respite, being propounded by the Egyptians and Palestinian factions and manifested by Hamas visit, would pave the way to steer attention to other impending issues and snags such as the bilateral exchange of prisoners and bringing stability to the volatile Gaza Strip. That is what Sulaiman and Hamas went over Wednesday.

They also discussed the problem of lifting the economic blockade against Gaza and the reopening of crossings in the region to ease the agony of nearly 1.5 million Palestinians whose movements have been severely curtailed as a result.

Among the Hamas delegation were deputy chief of the Movement’s politburo Moussa Abu Marzouq, and fellow members in the bureau Imad al-Alami, Ahmad Nasr and Mahamoud al-Zahar.
