Roma : The first Council of Ministers of government led by Silvio Berlusconi approved illegal immigration, emerged as key issue, be epitomized in Italy like a crime.
According to Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini, the initiative, envisaging sentences of six months and up to four years in jail for criminals, will be included in a bill to be supervised by Parliament.
Frattini explained that the meeting celebrated in the southern city of Napoles lasted around four hours and put under consideration the proposals of the Interior Minister Roberto Maroni.
The meeting of this Wednesday also analyzed the possibility of creating joint patrols of the army and the police like part of the safety measures, but the idea was ruled out.
Despite the rejection of opposition parties and the Church, the government of Berlusconi hopes to adopt those measures in Parliament taking into account the absolute majority of both Chambers after April election.
The legislative measures envisages, among others, the deportation of illegal people with sentences superior to two years in prison, and up to 18 months of stay in centers of retention for foreigners.
Likewise, nationals who clandestinely rent houses to illegal people could be condemned to six months and three years of freedom deprivation or to pay fines of 150,000 Euros and the confiscation of the house.
