Amman : Jordan’s Anti-Normalization Committee against Israel called Tuesday on Egypt to stop supplying Israel with gas in response to Israeli actions in the Palestinian territories, local daily Jordan Times reported.
In a letter sent to the Egyptian embassy in Amman, the committee said providing gas to Israel at a bargain price helps the latter’s economy thrive at the expense of the Egyptian people.
“Israel’s economy is a war economy directed at your Palestinian brethren, particularly in Gaza,” the letter said.
Committee head Hamzah Mansour, who is also the leader of the Islamic Action Front, said Israel’s actions in the Palestinian areas give Egypt the right to annul its agreement with Israel.
He added that the valuable commodity should be sent to Gaza to help the people there deal with the crippling sanctions imposed by Israel.
Egypt has pumped an annual gas of 1.7 billion cubic meters to Israel for 15 years via undersea pipelines connecting northern Egyptian city of Arish with the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon, said the report.
The Anti-Normalization Committee, which consists of representatives of opposition parties, professional associations, labor unions and other civil society groups, has an adamant anti-normalization policy.
Any members proven to have conducted activities with Israelis could face expulsion from their associations.
