Kuwait pledges aid worth $5 million for Myanmar cyclone victims

New York : Kuwait has earmarked $5 million worth of urgent humanitarian aid for victims of the recent devastating cyclone in Myanmar. The disclosure about the Kuwaiti financial assistance for the cyclone victims was made by Ziad Munir, the representative of the State of Kuwait at a meeting of the UN bureau for urgent humanitarian aid for states afflicted with natural catastrophes, held yesterday.

In line with an order by the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti Cabinet, at a session held on May 8, decided to allocate urgent aid worth $5 million for helping Myanmar cope with the destructive consequences of “Nargis” cyclone that ravaged large areas of the country, two weeks ago, KUNA reported. The Kuwaiti Cabinet has assigned Kuwait Red Cross Society with the mission of securing delivery of the aid supplies as soon as possible, in coordination with the Foreign Ministry. Munir, on behalf of the Gulf State, conveyed condolences to the permanent delegate of the Republic of Myanmar at the UN.Kuwait, since many years ago, has adopted a standing policy of aiding the needy worldwide.
