The election commission Wednesday announced the final results of the parliamentary elections, which were expected to be announced by May 15.

The declaration of the results, according to the election officials, was held up until a re-vote could take place at three polling stations following breaches in voting procedures.

The Democrat Party won 102 seats or 38.4 percent of votes in the 250-seat parliament, while Tomislav Nikolic’s Radical Party got 78 seats, or 29.45 percent of votes.

The results mean that Tadic’s party failed to win an outright majority required to push through his pro-Western policies and move closer to EU membership.

The results also left both pro-Western Tadic and Nikolic to chase for coalitions with the Socialists and Liberals to try and get the necessary 126 seats needed for a parliamentary majority.

A coalition including the Socialist Party of Serbia, the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia and United Serbia took 20 seats or 7.58 percent of the vote, while the Liberal Democratic Party won 13 seats or 5.24 percent of the vote.

The turnout was 61.35 percent, according to the election commission.
