“We have got the letter ready after discussions between the foreign ministry and the law ministry,” said Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi at a press conference.

Law Minister Farooq Naek, who co-chaired the press conference, said the letter will be sent to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon soon.

Bhutto, who headed the opposition Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), was killed in a gun and bomb attack last December while attending a political rally.

President Pervez Musharraf asked for a Scotland Yard team to join in the investigation after Bhutto was killed.

But Naek said the Scotland Yard team was given a “limited mandate ” during the probe.

“They were given the mandate to investigate whether it’s a murder, but not to investigate who are the persons behind the hideous crime.” Naek said.
