President begins four-day Jammu and Kashmir visit Friday

Srinagar : President Pratibha Patil arrives here Friday to a busy four-day schedule on her maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

After her arrival Friday morning, the president will visit the army posts in the Tangdhar sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The president will later visit the army brigade headquarters in Baramulla town where she will address the soldiers and have a ceremonial lunch with them.

Friday evening, the president will address the convocation of the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at the international convention complex on the banks of the Dal Lake in Srinagar.

State governor S.K. Sinha will host a dinner in honour of the president at Raj Bhavan Friday night. The president will have a night stay at Raj Bhavan.

Saturday morning, the president and her family members will visit the picturesque Gulmarg hill station where she is scheduled to halt for the night.

Patil will inaugurate the Bhaderwah campus of Jammu University in the Jammu district Sunday.

Sunday evening, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad will host a dinner in honour of the visiting dignitary in Srinagar.

On Monday, Patil will inaugurate the Kashmir Study Centre at the Kashmir University campus in Srinagar.

Before flying back to New Delhi Monday, the president will visit the Mughal Gardens in the state’s summer capital city and also enjoy a shikara (boat) ride in the Dal Lake.

“All arrangements, including security and protocol, are in place for the president’s maiden visit to the state,” a senior government official said here.
