New Delhi : India’s National Commission for Minorities (NCM) Friday got a new secretary, Mohan Krishen Khanna, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1974 batch.
The minority panel, set up in 1992, is entrusted with the task of evaluating progress of development of minorities, monitoring the Constitutional safeguards for them, and redressing their grievances.
The panel also plays the advisory role on the specific issues related to minority communities, who account for over 18 percent of the country’s total population.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), which met Friday, also approved the appointment of Ashok Thakur, a 1977 batch IAS officer, as additional secretary in the Department of Higher Education under the ministry of human resource development.
ACC appointed Pradeep Kumar Chaudhery, also a 1977 batch IAS officer, as additional secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, an official communiqué said.
