Mumbai : With concerns over growing energy needs and skyrocketing oil prices, the US government is urging India and China to become members of the International Energy Agency (IEA).
Talking to the media here Friday, the US assistant secretary of state for energy, economic and business affairs, Dan Sullivan said: “On my visit to Delhi, early this week, I expressed concerns over world energy supply and encouraged the Indian government to join the other major world economy and energy consumers by becoming a member of International Energy Agency.”
The US official is leading a business delegation to India and has met senior government officials and business community members to discuss energy cooperation and private sector business opportunities between the US and India.
He said his visit to Delhi was extremely fruitful “with an emphasis on how to expand the market action and trade linkages.”
