Madhubani (Bihar): The Bihar government will give 300% dearness allowance (DA) to madrasa teachers on their basic salary. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced this addressing Muslim Welfare Conference in Madhubani on 22nd May.
Addressing the conference at Madrasa Islamia Mahmoodul Uloom in Basfi block of the district, the chief minister said the state government gives grants for madrasas but payments of its staffs were not made in time for some years. The state government has increased DA for madrasa teachers as well as staffs from 125 % (which is given presently) to 300%, he said. He said the state cabinet has approved it. He also announced construction of a hostel in the premises of the madrasa.
He said promotion of education is the top priority of his government. While admitting that a large section of the Muslim society is still backward in education, he said schools will be opened in huts also, if needed, to spread literacy among Muslims.
Talking about Bhagalpur riot, he said that guilty got punishment only due to his effort. He further stated that he had demanded compensation from the central government for the victims but it has not yet taken any decision. However, the state government has started giving a sum of Rs 2,500 as monthly pension to the victims, he said.
