Beijing : The Chinese government has allocated 15.1 billion yuan ($2.2 billion) for quake relief operations so far, the country’s finance ministry said Saturday.x
The ministry said 11.1 billion yuan were allocated from the central budget and 4 billion yuan from local budgets.
The toll in the May 12 devastating earthquake in China rose to 60,560 Saturday, the Information Office of the State Council, said. Around 26,221 people are still missing.
The quake, measuring 8 on the Richter scale, jolted the south-western province of Sichuan, killing and wounding thousands in the aftermath.
Electricity had been partially restored in the 16 counties in Sichuan by Saturday, but the two worst affected counties, Beichuan and Lixian, are still without power, the State Electricity Regulatory Commission, said Saturday.
Telecommunication services in all the quake-hit regions, except for Hongguang Town in Qingchuan, have been resumed, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said.
