Brussels, Belgium : European Union foreign ministers have approved plans to begin talks with Russia on a new partnership deal, the Associated Press reported.
The EU hopes those talks, which will start at a summit with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in June, will lead to a new strategic partnership with its large eastern neighbor.
The EU ministers approved the negotiations at talks Monday.
Such a pact will cover economic and political issues, notably closer energy and trade ties.
